Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and legacy.
On May 17, 1967, more than 7000 students crammed into Sproul Plaza to hear King's electrifying speech on the peace movement, combatting poverty, and the Vietnam War.
In 2014, the SF Chronicle reached out to student organizers of the event and put together a photojournalism series detailing the speech, which you can find at www.sfchronicle.com/projects/2022/visuals/mlk-berkeley-1967/
